Rooms

Our centre has 3 rooms, which cater to children of different ages. Each room has a qualified team of educators and facilities suitable to the needs of children in the respective age group.

Children from all rooms also play and learn together in our large outdoor space. On any given day, most children probably spend about half of their time outside.

In 2015, the centre's educators, children, parent representatives and an Aboriginal Elder from the Victorian Aboriginal Corporation for Languages collaborated to rename our 3 rooms.

The rooms are named for 3 characters from Wurundjeri mythology:

  • Bunjil the eagle and Creator

  • Waa the crow and Protector, and

  • Binbeal the rainbow.

The inspiration for the names comes from the Dreamtime story The Legend of Bunjil the Creator and Spiritual Leader and the Koori myth Waa the Crow.

Binbeal Room (0-2 years)

  • Up to 12 children

  • 4 educators

The Binbeal Room welcomes children from birth to 2 years old.

Educators focus on building relationships with children and families to develop a sense of familiarity and consistency.

Activities include art, music, books, outdoor play, and trips to Monash Sport and the Monash Art Gallery.

In Wurundjeri mythology, Binbeal the rainbow is the son of Bunjil.

Waa Room (2-3 years)

  • Up to 16 children

  • 4 educators

The Waa Room hosts our toddler program and caters to children from 2 to 3 years old. Here, educators encourage exploration and independence in a fun and supportive environment.

We offer a range of activities to promote physical, emotional, and cognitive development. Educators are always on-hand to provide guidance and support.

In Wurundjeri mythology, Waa the crow is the protector.

Bunjil Room (3-5 years)

  • Up to 26 children

  • 3–4 educators

The Bunjil Room hosts our kindergarten and school-readiness programs, for children from 3 to 5 years old.

We provide a play-based curriculum that encourages socialisation, creativity, and problem-solving skills. The learning environment is structured to foster independence, critical thinking, and a love of learning.

The curriculum and practices are designed to prepare children for the step up to primary school.

The programs are led by a qualified kindergarten teacher and she and our experienced educators work closely with families to ensure each child reaches their full potential.

In Wurundjeri mythology, Bunjil the wedge-tailed eagle is the creator and is the father of Binbeal.
